Golden has the largest hand paddle/oar
It's with great pleasure that we announce that Golden has the world's largest hand paddle/oar.
Mark Teasdale of Columbia Wetlands Adventures has entered the Guinnness Book of World Records with his paddle.
The World’s Largest Paddle, constructed in the fall of 2013, is located near Golden BC in the beautiful Columbia River Valley. The paddle is a Canadian roadside attraction that provides a touchstone for Canadian identity and offers a fun place to experience a wilderness setting.
Mark Teasdale, owner of the World’s Largest Paddle, built the paddle with master woodworker Dave Stonehouse, and was assisted by Mo and Chris Teasdale. Passionate about the value of the area, Mark aims to provide a fun way to access the Columbia River and the diversity of its wetlands.
What does it take to build the world’s largest paddle?
- One Western Red Cedar log, over 60 feet long
- One 4’X40’ slab of LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber)
- 5300 lbs of materials in total
- 200 hours of labour
- 4 gallons of Varathane
- a love of place and a great sense of humour
