KHC presents Lucy MacNeil

806 10th Avenue S
Golden BC V0A 1H2
Canada

Although best known as the lead vocalist with Canada’s legendary Barra MacNeils, Lucy MacNeil is currently touring with her own trio. She’ll be performing a mix of traditional Cape Breton-flavoured Gaelic music and contemporary singer-songwriter material.

Lucy grew up in a very musical home and was further blessed with a gorgeous, crystalline voice. She began performing professionally with three of her older brothers when she was just 10, nearly 40 years ago. The Barra MacNeils released their first album in 1986 and were winning awards shortly thereafter, grabbing their first East Coast Music Award in 1991 and their first Juno the year following. These deeply traditional exponents of Cape Breton music and dance have toured regularly across North America and Europe, true musical ambassadors for Canada. Although it’s fair to say that Lucy is the heart of the Barra MacNeils – aside from her signature vocals in English and Gaelic, she also dances and plays a lovely fiddle – she has branched out over the years, performing with such notable artists as the Chieftains and legendary Newfoundland singer-songwriter Ron Hynes. Her CD Angels was a pandemic project, and the hit single that emerged, David Mallett’s “Hope for One and All,” delighted old fans and earned Lucy many new ones. (Roots Music Canada, after calling her a “vibrant songstress,” went on to say, “The alluring Maritime beacon of Lucy MacNeil’s voice puts a simple and sincere glow of certainty on Mallett’s song.”) If you love beautiful vocals entwined with evocative instrumentation, don’t miss this rare tour!
