Yoho National Park in Winter
Yoho National Park is just 40 minutes drive east of Golden BC and offers an abundance of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in stunning locations.
Cross-country ski trails are typically groomed twice a week but this depends on snowfall and weather conditions. The best skiing and snowshoeing is from late December through late March.
- Emerald Lake offers groomed beginner multi-use trails across and around the lake surrounded by amazing vistas of the Rocky Mountains.
- The Yoho Valley Road and Kicking Horse Fire Road provide groomed beginner and intermediate sections that follow the Kicking Horse River. Farther along the river, snowshoers and hikers enjoy the Wapta Falls trail (ice cleats are recommended here).
- If you're looking for a workout take the 11km road to Lake O’Hara. The effort will be good for body and soul as you reach one of the most famous lakes in the Canadian Rockies.
Dogs are welcome on certain winter trails, check the website link below for before you go. Remember to keep dogs off the track set, on a leash and always pick up after them!
The park is a natural area and travel is at your own risk. Parks Canada does not maintain or patrol winter trails in Yoho National Park. Even a short walk from the parking lot can take you into dangerous terrain and cell phone coverage is not reliable in the park.
