MySpotlight: Kanada - Pioneers of the Mountains Swiss conquer the Rockies: The history of the Swiss Guides
“These days the ‘Bund’ reports the departure of another group of young Oberländer mountain guides and their wives to Canada, where the Canadian Pacific Railway will set them up at Glacier House.” Such were the news in Alpina magazine – published by the Swiss Alpine Club in 1912. The issue was referring to a group of young mountaineers and their families, who had set out to start a new life abroad.
Others had preceded them, called by a mission to explore the touristic potential of the Rocky Mountains.
