Live Kicks - KHC presents: The Good Lovelies
Location: Golden Civic Centre
The Good Lovelies – a.k.a. Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough, and Sue Passmore – are one of Canada’s finest vocal trios. Although folk/country at heart, the Good Lovelies incorporate elements of pop, roots, and jazz into their award-winning sound.
For nearly 20 years, the Good Lovelies – consisting of Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough, and Sue Passmore – have been widely hailed as one of Canada’s finest vocal trios. Online music-zine GreatDarkWonder has praised their combination of “high caliber songwriting and incredible three-part vocal harmonies,” while Americana UK thanked them for “gracing this stage and enthralling the local congregation with their brand of exquisite melodies, and intricate harmonies all wrapped up in thought-provoking songs.” Although at heart they can be considered a folk/country harmony trio, the Good Lovelies incorporate elements of pop, roots, and jazz into their award-winning sound. They were all performing as solo artists when they collaborated for a Christmas concert in 2006. Lightning struck and the three women kept working together, releasing their first EP four months later. Their first full-length CD, Good Lovelies, went on to win a Juno for Best Roots & Traditional Album of the Year in 2010, and more recordings – and many more awards – were to follow. The trio has long toured extensively across Canada, the United States, Europe, Britain, and Australia, with a sheaf of press raves to show for it. According to The Aeolian, “It’s their voices interwoven in harmony – powerful and pure, organic and inspiring – that elevates them from impressive to peerless.” And Britain-based musician and producer John Fisher said of their latest CD, “We Will Never Be The Same is a gorgeous album, very intimate and direct. You feel as if the speaker wires lead directly to their hearts.”
Opening the show will be Quebec-based singer-songwriter Mia Kelly, who charms audiences with her uniquely tuneful blend of folk-blues.
